I first thought of becoming a teacher in high school. I was inspired by one of my teachers who believed in me and thought I could accomplish anything. While attending DePaul University for my undergraduate degree, I tutored in K-8 Chicago Public Schools. I learned how wonderful it is to make connections with students while guiding them toward discovery and learning. I then worked as an Assistant Pre-school Teacher in my hometown, Park Ridge, Illinois. I was fascinated by theories of childhood development and learning through play. After graduating from the University of Maine with a Master of Arts in Teaching, I taught 2nd grade in Maine for one year before we relocated to the Midwest after having our first child. I was very fortunate to teach two five-month maternity leaves in 2nd grade at HES before becoming a full-time teacher there in the Fall of 2016. My greatest hope is that I can help your child find the motivation and confidence to accomplish anything he or she strives for.
Mr. Worden and I have two children and we are both teachers. Some of my favorite things to do are baking and spending time outdoors with my family (our mini dachshund and chihuahua mix included)! We love Star Wars and LEGO, and have built many homes in Minecraft together. Fair warning, I may occasionally break out in song as I do have a music and theatre background.
